Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, teen crash rates spike across the U.S. As parents and local neighbors in North Phoenix, we’re sharing what you need to know and how Precision Tire and Auto Center can help your family stay safe.

With summer in full swing, it’s officially that time of the year for packed highways, road trips, and weekends on the go. What we don’t often think about is the danger associated with all that extra driving, especially during what’s called the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer. Statistically speaking, this stretch between Memorial Day to Labor Day sees a sharp rise in car accidents, particularly among teen drivers, making it one of the most dangerous times to be on the road. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, over 7,000 people died in teen driving-related crashes during this period over the last decade. The combination of school being out, more freedom behind the wheel, and increased traffic makes this a particularly dangerous time to be on the road.

As parents ourselves, this is extremely eye-opening.

Why Teen Drivers Are Most at Risk

Teens are less experienced than the average driver, which makes them more susceptible to distractions, poor judgement, and delayed reaction time. Mix that with crowded roads, high speeds, and the intense summer heat, and it creates a perfect recipe for serious, and potential life-threatening, risks.

How Parents Can Help Reduce the Risk

It’s not always easy, but having regular conversations about safety is one of the most important things you can do to protect your child behind the wheel. Reminding them to wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions (like that pesky phone!), and avoid late-night drives whenever possible. It may seem small, but those simple habits can make all the difference.

To take it a step further, setting clear expectations helps your teen understand the boundaries and responsibilities that come with driving. This might mean agreeing on rules like limiting the number of passengers, sticking to certain driving hours, or checking in when they arrive at their destination. Having these conversations early and revisiting them often can keep communication open and build trust.

Modeling good habits yourself is another powerful way to teach safe driving. Teens notice what we do more than what we say, so always buckle up, avoid texting while driving, and obey traffic laws when you’re behind the wheel. When your child sees you practicing safe driving, it reinforces the importance of these behaviors.

Finally, keeping the car well-maintained is a key part of safety that can’t be overlooked. Regular oil changes, brake checks, and tire inspections can prevent breakdowns or accidents caused by mechanical issues. Making sure your teen’s car is in top shape helps protect them from avoidable risks on the road.

Why We Care

The 100 Deadliest Days aren’t just a statistic, they represent real families, real kids, and real lives changed in an instant. We’re not just a shop that works on cars. We’re a small, family-run business made up of parents, grandparents, and neighbors who truly care about the people in our community. We’ve had those nervous moments watching our teens pull out of the driveway for the first time. We’ve had the talks in the car. We’ve done the late-night “text me when you get there” routine.

So, if your teen just got their license, you’re about to hit the road for a family trip, or you’re about to send your child off for college, let us help you feel more confident behind the wheel. A quick inspection today could prevent a big problem tomorrow.
